Last week, Gartner held its first in-person Supply Chain Xpo in Orlando, Florida. The event brought together supply chain leaders from across industries to discuss the latest trends and best practices in supply chain management.
The TADA team was there and had the opportunity to connect with many supply chain leaders and learn about the challenges they are facing. Here are some of the key themes we heard from attendees.
Supply chain visibility was a top priority for many of the supply chain leaders we spoke with. Many companies are still struggling with limited visibility into their supply chains, making it difficult to identify and respond to disruptions. Companies that have invested in visibility capabilities are experiencing significant advantages in terms of agility and resilience.
Many companies have visibility into their Tier 1 suppliers, but very few have visibility into their Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers. Yet many supply chain risks originate at these lower tiers. Getting multi-tier visibility is a top goal for many companies, but it requires significant investments in technology and supplier collaboration.
Talent was a recurring theme at the conference. Many companies are struggling to attract and retain supply chain talent, particularly for roles requiring digital and analytical skills. Companies that can attract top talent are better positioned to leverage digital supply chain tools and drive better outcomes.
Sustainability was a growing priority for many companies at the conference. Companies are increasingly being asked by customers, investors, and regulators to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability across their supply chains. Supply chain visibility is a critical enabler of sustainability, as it provides the data needed to measure and reduce the environmental impact of the supply chain.
